A method of operation of a combined engine with a two-phase working fluid based on a reciprocating internal combustion engine, including the supply of air by a compressor to the intake manifold, cooling it by spraying cold water, cooling the combustion products in series in the boiler and in the contact condenser to a temperature at which the released condensate can be cooled to the temperature of cold water with outside air in a water-air radiator, then their expansion in a turboexpander (turbine), separation of a water drop in a contact condenser and a turboexpander (turbine) during expansion of combustion products, supply of cold water to a contact condenser for cooling combustion products and into an intake system for air cooling, reduction of the maximum combustion temperature due to the evaporation of water droplets during fuel combustion in combustion chambers, heat transfer from the lubrication system oil to heated water in the water distribution device through the separating walls of the water-oil heat exchanger, heated water to the boiler from the water distribution device and the supply of steam from the boiler to the expansion device to obtain useful work, regulation of the gas pressure in the condenser by throttling them in front of the turboexpander (turbine) impeller depending on the outside air temperature, characterized in that the maximum combustion temperature is reduced due to evaporation of water droplets during fuel combustion in combustion chambers with excess air coefficients α = 1.0 ÷ 1.2 in gas and gasoline (with forced ignition) and α≥1.1 in diesel (with self-ignition) engines, in which �
