The heat exchanger (11) has metal sheets (13, 15) i.e. copper sheets, with a set of side edges (17, 19) connected with each other at opposite sides. Surfaces of the sheets are connected with fastening points (35). A flow chamber (16) for heat transfer medium is formed between the sheets. Two connection tubes (27a, 27b) are arranged at another set of side edges (21, 23) of the sheets and are in connection with the chamber. A mounting outer cover (37) surrounds the connection tubes and is connected with the tubes and with the latter set of edges of the sheets in liquid-tight manner. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a flat heat exchanger.
