The method involves opening exhaust valves (12a-12f) at one of exhaust gas strands in a clock pulse, during association of a selected exhaust valve (14a) at the other exhaust gas strand. A selected cylinder (10a) is pressurized with fuel such that an air-fuel-ratio in an exhaust gas or grease of the selected cylinder is different from an air-fuel-ratio in the exhaust gas of all other cylinders (10b-10f). Sealability of the selected exhaust valve is concluded based on measured values of a lambda sensor (28) i.e. broadband lambda sensor, in one of the exhaust gas strands.
