The invention relates to an optimisation method of an internal direct starting of a spark-ignition internal combustion engine having a variable compression ratio. According to one aspect of the invention, the compression ratio is influenced in each switching off phase of the internal combustion engine (1) such that the internal combustion engine stops in an angle range which is optimum for restarting. According to another aspect, the compression ratio is adjusted to the lowest value thereof during the start phase.
