The gas sensor has a sensor element (12) with a gas entry hole and a heating element in an end section (121) that is gas-sensitively exposed to a measuring gas flow. The heating element produces a heat zone with a heat focal point that is axially displaced to the gas entry hole. The heat focal point is shielded with respect to the measuring gas flow. A screen is between the gas entry hole and the heat focal point. The sensor element is fixed to a sensor housing (11) above the end section by a sealing member (13).
