The method involves aligning the rotationally symmetrical working surface concentrically to an axis of rotation (5) of the round table. A carrier element (7) is stationarily arranged in the area of a centric recess (6) in the round table. A reference surface (9) of the rotationally symmetrical working surface is measured by a measuring unit (8) at the stationary carrier element through rotation of a work piece (1) on the round table. The work piece is so positioned or aligned on the round table that the reference surface lies concentrically to the axis of rotation of the round table. An independent claim is included for a hard finishing machine with a machine bed.
