Preparing an ether comprises: (i) providing an aqueous phase (WP) containing water, alcohol component and an active composition; (ii) providing an oily phase (OP) containing hydrocarbon compound; (iii) optionally providing further additives; (iv) contacting the aqueous phase with oily phase and optionally with additives to form ether with hydroxyl group containing mixture; (v) dividing the reaction mixture into aqueous phase and oily phase, where the oily phase contains ether; and (vi) relaxing the obtained oily phase to give liquid phase (f) containing ether and gaseous phase (g). Preparation of ether comprises: (i) providing an aqueous phase (WP) containing at least water, at least an alcohol component with two or more hydroxyl groups, and catalytically active composition; (ii) providing an oily phase (OP) containing a hydrocarbon compound with at least two conjugated double bonds; (iii) optionally providing further additives; (iv) contacting the aqueous phase with the oily phase and optionally with other additives to form ether with at least one hydroxyl group containing reaction mixture, where the contacting step is carried out at a pressure of 1-100 bar; (v) dividing the reaction mixture into an aqueous phase and oily phase, where the aqueous phase is recycled in the reactor and combined with the aqueous phase, and the oily phase contains ether; and (vi) relaxing the obtained oily phase to give a liquid phase containing ether and gaseous phase, where the gaseous phase is recycled in the reactor and combined with the oily phase, and the liquid phase contains more ethers than the gaseous phase. Independent claims are included for: (1) a formulation comprising ether-based formulation component and/or ethers; (2) a process for producing an intermediate product-I, comprising providing ether, and a carboxylic acid component, as intermediate components and converting the intermediate components to form the intermediate product-I; (3) a lacquering composition comprising at least an intermediate product-II and a radical generator, as LK-components; and (4) a reactive diluting composition comprising an intermediate product-I obtained by the above process, and an ester of an unsaturated 6-22C carboxylic acid and 3-6C polyols.
