The circuit (1) has a semiconductor component (2) e.g. MOSFET and insulated gate bipolar transistor, comprising a substrate material between connections (10, 11) e.g. source and drain, for controlling load current (IL), where conductivity of the substrate material is adjustable. A control connection (13) adjusts the conductivity of the substrate material by control voltage (Ugs). An insulating layer insulates the control connection from the substrate material. A voltage supply unit supplies the control voltage, which is adjustable based on the load current to be controlled. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling load current.
