In a weld seam for connecting two (preferably different) cast iron workpieces (4, 4'), containing an iron-based supplementary material (10), the supplementary material contains less than 0.5 wt. % carbon and the carbon content in the weld seam is 1-2 wt. %. An independent claim is included for an arrangement of two (preferably different) metallic workpieces connected together by a weld seam (2) as above, where a supplementary material (10) in foil form is inserted in the impact region between the two workpieces (4, 4').
