The wheel has a baseplate (12) comprising a steering wheel rim (20) whose external surface is made of plastic material. A flexible cover is made of leather or imitation leather and partially covers the steering wheel rim. The flexible cover has a cut that is directly fastened to the steering wheel rim, where sections of the cut extend into a groove in the rim. The sections of the cut extending into the groove are ultrasonically welded with side walls of the groove for connecting the groove with the rim. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a vehicle steering wheel.
