The gas generator (10) has two combustion chambers (16,22) and two ignition devices (18,24) which are assigned to different combustion chambers. The two combustion chambers are flow-connected by multiple discharge openings (30). One of the two combustion chambers extends in the discharge openings through one or multiple combustion chamber closing elements (32). The combustion chamber closing element is made of plastic or metal.
