The device has a traction mechanism (130) for transmitting an adjustment force to an adjustment part i.e. window pane (4). The mechanism is extended from a drive unit (10) to the adjustment part and extended backwards to the drive unit. The mechanism forms a closed rope loop with a predetermined length. The drive unit reduces a length of the rope loop of the mechanism in phase of adjusting process of the adjustment part. The drive unit comprises a rope drum (3) for driving the mechanism, where the drum is rotatably supported around a rotation axis (D). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an adjusting device for adjusting an adjustment part i.e. window pane of a motor vehicle.
