The system (1) has a lubricant pump (4) i.e. oil pump, for conveying lubricant from a lubricant reservoir (3) i.e. oil pan, to an internal combustion engine (2). A lubricant filter (10) is arranged upstream to the engine. A controllable valve device (11) is arranged upstream of a lubricant-water-heat exchanger (8). Another valve device (12) is provided in a parallel bypass line (9). A pipeline (13) is arranged downstream to the valve devices and deviates from a piston lubrication/cooling system (14) i.e. piston syringe, where a third valve device (15) is arranged in the pipeline. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the lubricant supply system of the internal combustion engine.
