The method involves performing an assigning process by determining a release action by an user input such as switching on or switching off of a part of a cooking appliance. The assigning process is performed by determining an audio signal for the release action, and storing the release action with the audio signal in a memory unit i.e. electrically EPROM, of the appliance. An operating program i.e. cooking program, of the appliance is selected. The assigning of the audio signal to the release action is selected, adjusted, changed and/or stored at a user side during the assigning process. An independent claim is also included for a cooking appliance comprising a cooking chamber.
