The device (1) has an optical particle counter provided for a pollution control, and a pipe line (10) guiding a liquid (12) in a direction of flow (14). A light source (20) and photo diode (30) are arranged opposite to each other transverse to the direction of flow of liquid. An evaluating unit (40) evaluates an electrical signal in a photo diode online. The light source and the photo diode are directly arranged in the monitored wire without utilizing a wiring branch. Components of a pipe lining system are arranged in the light source and photo diode in the direction of flow. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring an impurity of liquid in a lining device of a lining system of a motor vehicle with an optical particle counter.
