Automatic cutting machine for float glass used to produce photovoltaic cells has clamping rods (9) which slide longitudinally over a cutting table (2). A cutting head (6) is moved over the table by a longitudinal drive (3) and a transverse drive (4). An inflatable tube lifts and lowers the table and an electromagnet adjusts the cutting force, a sensor detecting fracture of the glass. Independent claims are included for: (A) a method for cutting float glass used to produce photovoltaic cells which uses the machine; (B) a computer program for operating the method; and (C) machine-readable data media carrying the program.
