The method involves inserting a drawing mandrel (9) in a recess (8) of a support mandrel (5) in an area of a transition region i.e. steep passage, of a workpiece e.g. reservoir tube. An inner contour (12) of a punching tool is moved along the workpiece for forming the transition region. The drawing mandrel and the workpiece are moved relative to each other, by the punching tool for shaping adjustment of an inner diameter of the workpiece. The punching tool is removed from the workpiece that is transformed. The support mandrel is pulled out from the transformed workpiece. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a thin-walled tubular workpiece, comprising a circular drawing tool.
