The seat (1) has a sensor device (7) for recognition of alertness deficit phases of a person seated on the seat, where the seat is supported at a motor vehicle chassis (3) via a connectable spring-damper-system (2). The sensor device strengthens suspension/damping characteristics of the spring-damper-system, if the sensor system recognizes the alertness deficit in the person seated on the seat, where the sensor device changes the suspension/damping behavior of the spring-damper system toward an awake holding frequency. An independent claim is also included for a method for reacting to alertness deficit phases of a person sitting on a motor vehicle seat.
