The safety device has a nut flange column connected with a supporting frame of a ship lift, where the safety device is coupled with trough drives. The nut flange column includes two strands of nut flange segments (2, 3). Arrangement of the nut flange segments to a strand of the nut flange column takes place as an articulated self-supporting bar chain. The nut flange column is coupled with a lantern pinion conductor. A stable connection of the nut flange segments takes place.
