The method involves producing a measuring value of a camshaft position signal. The value is processed using signal processing method for an adapted position signal. A dynamic identification of rotation movement of cam or crank shafts takes place based on the detection of passage of segments (3) of a crank sensor wheel (1) i.e. 60-2 sensor wheel, or cam shaft sensor wheel (2) and comparison of the value with a preceding measuring value of sensor wheels. Adaptation of measuring value processing method takes place to determine the adapted position signal in dependent of the identification.
