The element (10) has a set of large surfaces arranged parallel to a flow field plate (40) in an assembled condition. An area of one of the large surfaces faces a flow channel of the flow field plate, and another area of the large surface faces a bar of the flow field plate. A catalyst is arranged such that density of the catalyst in the former area is larger than density of the catalyst in the latter area. The former area and the latter area are arranged adjacent to each other on the large surface.
