The injector (1) has an injection valve member (5) and two multiplying pistons (15, 20) in which one of the pistons limits a coupling area (10). An end (8) of the injection valve member projects in the coupling area and is distant to a combustion chamber. The piston limiting the coupling area defines a pressure relief space (24) on a side turned towards the coupling area. The relief space is connected with a return line (25). The coupling area is connected with a high pressure region by an inlet throttle (31). The multiplying piston is fastened at the end of the injection valve member.
