The particle sensor (11) has three insulation layers (14-16), and an electrode system with two electrodes (12, 13). The electrodes are arranged between the two adjacent insulation layers by forming a layer structure. Each electrode has a region accessible from a side surface (S1) of the layer structure. Main surfaces (HE1, HE2) of the electrodes contact less than 100 percent of main surfaces (H1, H2) of the adjacent insulation layers. The side surface of the layer structure has slots and/or a curved structure for increasing the accessible electrode surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a particle sensor.
