The printing unit (1) has two frame parts (13, 14) engaged against each other in an operating position and separated from each other in another operating position, where the frame parts are position-changeable relative to each other. A gap is formed between the frame parts in the printing unit and partially limited by the frame parts. A control unit is connected with a sensor. The control unit activates the sensor based on operating positions of the frame parts, and/or evaluates signals of the sensor.
