The system has an adjustment device (5) arranged at an electric motor (1) i.e. direct current motor, and adjusting electric power supplied to the motor based on a temperature for providing motor torque. A control unit is arranged outside of the motor, and the adjustment device has a regulating unit for regulating the supplied electric power based on the temperature. A temperature detecting device (7) is arranged at the motor, is formed in the adjustment device and detects a temperature of the motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electric motor for driving a mechanical system.
