The steel component comprises a plate-shaped carrier, and a support, which is arranged on the carrier, contains ceramic particles in a metallic matrix and has a wear-resistant free surface, where the concentration of the ceramic particles in the support increases from the carrier to the surface. The support has a hardness of 60-65 HR c, and contains ceramic particles only up to 1 mm below the surface and/or 1.3-5.5 kg of the ceramic particles per m 2 surface. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a support on a carrier.
