The fuel injector has an injector body (1) and a valve piece (2) arranged in the injector body, in which an actuating element, particularly a nozzle needle (5) or a pressure rod is controlled. A sealing element (6) is arranged in an annular space (3) between the injector body and the valve piece. A retaining ring (8) is arranged in the annular space at the high-pressure side adjacent to the sealing element. The retaining ring is supported at the walls of the annular space and prevents an axial lifting of the sealing element.
