The engine has a combustion chamber (15) with an inlet (18), where a spark plug (35) is inserted into the chamber. A fuel injecting device (27) has two fuel injecting valves (28, 29) that are assigned to the chamber. The valve (29) from a side installation position and the valve (28) from a central installation position inject fuel directly into the chamber under high pressure. The valves are designed as multi-hole injecting valves with different fuel flow for injecting multiple fuel jets, where one of the valves (28) has clearly less fuel flow in the central installation position.
