The dishwasher (100) has a sump (120) for accommodating washing water. A draining device (140) drains water from the sump. A vibration measuring unit (150) measures vibration magnitude produced by the draining device. A controller controls operation of the draining device based on the measured vibration magnitude. The controller terminates the operation of the draining device when the measured vibration magnitude exceeds a pre-determined vibration level. An alarm device outputs an alarm signal to a user to indicate if the dishwasher works abnormally. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling operation of a dishwasher.
