The turbocharger has a rotor (1) comprising a compressor part (2) and a turbine part (4) that are connected by a common shaft (3). The rotor is arranged at a rotor axle that is inclined with respect to a horizontal plane at an inclination angle (phi) that is in the range of 45-90 degree. A rotor bearing (5) has an active controller for regulation of position of the rotor axle. The rotor bearing is designed as a plastic sliding bearing, magnet bearing or air bearing and is free from liquid or solid lubricants.
