The drum-type furnace (1) has a drum (10) equipped with a drum body (11), where a flexible rotating body (20) is provided in an inner space (19) at a front side (12) of the drum. The rotating body extends from the front side of the drum in an axial direction. The rotating body includes a chain (22), rectangular sections, a connecting section and round extensions over a length. The rotating body is made up of ferrous material. The chain is fastened to the front side of the drum at both ends. An independent claim is also included for a method for melting metal in a rotary drum-type furnace.
