The device (1) has a control device (6) for generating an inverse piezoelectric effect in a piezoelectric positioning element (5), to pressurize a deformation body (2) in a region of an outer wall. The deformation body is deformed such that distance between side surfaces (3, 4) of the deformation body is variable. A portion of the outer wall of the deformation body is formed by a slotted metal ring. The positioning element rests at the portion of the outer wall of the deformation body, and overstretches a slot in the slotted metal ring, to define a width of the slot. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an active vibration damping device.
