The element (10) has a cover surface element (16) e.g. plate, glued to a main surface (14) of a base surface element (12) and made of ceramic material, plastic material, metal or wood. The cover surface element exhibits a wall thickness (d1) smaller than thickness (d2) of the base surface element, where the wall thickness is greater than or equal to 0.1 mm. The cover and base surface elements are formed congruent with an edge contour, and are fixedly connected with each other by a thin adhesive layer (18) e.g. hot melt adhesive film and epoxy resin adhesive. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a surface element.
