The method involves detecting a cylindrical wall (1). The undercuts are placed in the cylindrical wall during the mechanical processing of the cylindrical wall by a cutting tool. The cutting tool condition is detected before and after the mechanical processing, where areas (2.1,2.2,2.3,2.4) of the cylindrical wall are detected with a confocal camera.
