The device has a container (24) for storing a liquid, gel-like, pasty or powdered product e.g. lip vermilion, and for retaining an application unit (12) in a resting position. A stripper (26) encloses a handle (10) in an attachment area in the resting position, where outer diameter of the handle in the attachment area is 1.2 to 1.5 times larger than width of the stripper without the handle. The outer diameter of the handle increases to the application unit in an axial direction from the attachment area. The stripper has two sections made of hard and soft materials, respectively.
