The method involves releasing tooth-on-tooth position in response to a request for closing a frictionally engaged switching element (6) by generating a differential rotation at a side of an electrical machine (3) between switching element halves. A set of switching element halves of a positively locked switching element (7) is contorted for releasing the tooth-on-tooth position by the machine based on rotation of another set of switching element halves about a predefined rotational angle. The halves of the positively switching element are set in connection with the machine.
