The electric motor (1) has an anchor (6), a commutator (5) connected with the anchor and two brushes (2,3), where the commutator has two contacts (4) for electrical contacting of the brushes. The brushes have contact area formed for electrical contacting of the commutator. The electric motor has a wear detection unit (11). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a brush for an electric motor; and (2) a method for detecting wear of a brush of an electric motor.
