The system has a battery housing for receiving battery cells (20), and multiple battery modules (10) for receiving the battery cells. The battery modules are independently inserted into the battery housing, where one of the battery module includes two electrical connections (16, 17) connected to another battery module. The battery modules are provided with a lower module shell (12) and an upper module shell (14). Each battery module includes electronics for detection of cell voltages and cell temperature, and controlling a cell balance of the battery cells. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a battery system.
