The device (20) has a line (10a) connected with a fluid-guiding channel of a housing of a vehicle, where the line is subjectable with a fluid i.e. air, under pressure. An adjustment unit i.e. pressure control valve (16), adjusts a reference pressure value for the fluid that is to be guided in the channel. A detection unit i.e. manometer (18), detects an actual pressure value in the channel via which the fluid flows, where a leakage is detected depending on deviation of the value of the reference pressure and the actual pressure. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing the operability of a transmission of a vehicle.
