The device has an air inlet opening provided with a suction grating, where outside air is supplied to an interior of a motor vehicle through the air inlet opening. A downstream air supply tract (10) is provided adjacent to the inlet opening. A retaining device (16) for retaining foreign bodies (14) e.g. snow and/or the dirt, carried along with the air is arranged in the air supply tract. The retaining device is bent to an inner wall (13) of the air supply tract. A blower is arranged downstream to the retaining device, and a suction pressure is generated in the tract by the blower.
