The method involves setting a reference value-indoor temperature. An actual value-indoor temperature or an actual value-surface temperature of an occupant is determined. The reference value-indoor temperature is compared with the actual value-indoor temperature and/or the actual value-surface temperature. A detection unit is used to contactlessly detect a type i.e. material, and/or condition i.e. humidity degree, of clothing of the occupant in vehicle interior during existence of an information source. A vehicle air-conditioning system is operated depending on the detection result. The information source includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) element.
