The device has a heat conductive plate (6) arranged in a battery housing for cooling a battery (2), and cells (3) heat conductively connected with the plate. Coolant e.g. carbon dioxide, of an air conditioning system flows via the plate, and the housing has an opening for discharging gases. A pipe (5) is attached to the opening and has an end arranged outside of a vehicle interior, where the end is turned away from the battery. Coolant pipelines (8) are guided from the air conditioning system to the plate through the pipe and the opening and/or from the plate to the air conditioning system.
