The method involves driving an internal combustion engine and an electric motor of a parallel hybrid drive of a hybrid vehicle over a common shaft, and operating the hybrid vehicle only in a hybrid operation when a gearshift transmission is arranged in a high gear speed. The vehicle is operated only by the engine during shifting-down of the transmission from the high speed to a low gear speed, and the vehicle is operated simultaneously by the engine and the motor in a middle speed range, where the gear speeds are selected by a driver of the vehicle.
