The element (1) has an extension in an axial extending direction (A) and another extension in a plane running orthogonal in a radial extending direction. A filter medium has a raw gas side and a clean gas side. A sealing arrangement (70) has a contact surface (71) designed for separation of the clean gas side from the raw gas side with respect to an air filter housing wall, where the separation is impermeable to leakage air. The contact surface is circular and has a geometry, which has an asymmetry inhibiting an incorrect installation with respect to the axial extending direction. An independent claim is also included for an air filter of an internal combustion engine.
