The device has a light producing unit (5) i.e. laser unit, and/or a receiver (6) i.e. laser scanner, which are arranged in a side mirror and/or a handle of a door (2) of a motor vehicle (1) in such a manner that conditions of a lane surface (3) are detected in a potential exit region of the vehicle. An output unit is arranged at the vehicle for representing or signaling presence of puddle (4) and outputs acoustic and/or optical signals. The output unit is arranged at an area of the vehicle door or a component of a dashboard.
