The device (1) has a grill grate receiving grill goods and arranged at a distance to a fire place. The grate has a front side by which the goods are delivered. An arrangement platform (15) is provided in a longitudinal side (11) of a plate shaped heat shield (10). The platform detachably arranges the shield at the grill for covering an opening defined by the distance from the place and the grate using the shield at the grate front side. The device is made of metal, high-grade steel, aluminum, aluminum alloys, ceramic or carbon-containing materials, composite materials or plastic.
