The method involves determining a desired field current (114) by an electromagnetic coil (113) based on actual fuel pressure (122) and desired fuel pressure (121) in a fuel pressure accumulator of a common rail fuel injection system (100). A temperature variable (200) characterizing the temperature of the coil is determined. A voltage signal (118) is determined based on the determined desired field current and the determined temperature variable. The electromagnetic coil is controlled with the determined voltage signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product for performing a method for controlling an electromagnetic coil of a pressure control valve in a common rail fuel injection system (2) a device for controlling an electromagnetic coil, comprising a fuel temperature determination unit.
