The method involves transmitting heat energy output from an internal combustion engine (1) to a cooling circuit of a gear box (2) by a water/oil heat exchanger (9). The gear box cooling circuit has a cooler (6) that is optionally bridged when a gear box oil temperature falls below a predetermined temperature. Feed stream to the heat exchanger is interrupted by a shut-off valve (10) when the gear box oil temperature reaches to the predetermined temperature, and the bridging of the cooler of the gear box cooling circuit is deactivated. An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a method for improving efficiency of a gear box of an agricultural vehicle.
