The method involves connecting a brine circuit (4) with an evaporator (6) of a heat pump (12), and detecting surrounding air temperature by a temperature sensor (1). Temperature of brine is detected by another temperature sensor (2). Temperature difference between the air temperature and the temperature of the brine is detected after predetermined time after the starting of a circulating pump (5) arranged in the brine circuit. An air-to-brine heat exchanger (3) is defrosted when the temperature difference exceeds a predetermined value, where the heat exchanger has a fan (7).
