The method involves detecting forces, flight mechanical parameters on wings (2) and a horizontal stabilizer (3) of an aircraft (1) at different detection time points during a transient flight maneuver of the aircraft. An equation system comprises a pitching moment balance equation for each detection time point, which has the detected forces and flight mechanical parameters for calculating the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft. The equation system is evaluated. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a device for determining aerodynamic characteristics of an airplane; (2) a program with program instructions; and (3) a data medium for storing a program.
